Just popping in.....

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 23, 2011, 7:08 PM
UPDATE: New links added at bottom!

I haven't been around for a while.  It's not because I haven't been doing anything, actually it's just the opposite.  I've been SO super busy that most of my life has been put on hold.  I was hired for my first published gig, coloring the Grimm Fairy Tales Annual 2011 for Zenescope.  It's the first part of a 3 part crossover story starring Sinbad.  It's an oversized issue, and I believe it comes out next week.   so check it out!  I'm hard at work on the next issue, so I won't be around for a bit still and haven't had much time to work on anything except the last two pieces I posted between projects.  Back to work!  I'm a coloring monkey!

Here's some info:

BUSY BUSY BUSY.....

Journal Entry: Mon May 2, 2011, 7:02 PM
I've been super busy lately.  I just finished up a bunch of outstanding work today, stuff that's been backlogged for the last month.  So I'm all caught up to where I want to be again.

I did increase my rates slightly, as I'm no longer charging those "holiday special" prices from Christmas anymore :P

COMMISSIONS:

I am accepting coloring commissions for the following pricing (YOU provide the lineart):

Digital Colors:
Single Character: $25
Additional Characters: $10 each
Simple Background: $10 extra
Complex Background: $25 extra - See these for an idea on what complex usually is:

11x17 or 13x19 Print: $20 extra, shipping included (USA only, I am not shipping prints international sorry.)

For instance:
If you have one character and a simple background, it will cost $35.
If you have one character and a complex background, it will cost $50.
If you have 4 characters, a simple background, AND want a print, it will be $85.

Lan Pitts (:iconlanpitts:), my art rep, will be setting these up and keeping track of them, email him at oryonstar@gmail.com with any questions or to set one up. I will be completing them as fast as possible, because I don't like leaving people hanging or keeping them waiting longer than necessary.  While I DO take payment in advance, I do not actually request payment until it is your turn on the list.  This way, when you pay, you KNOW that your commission is the one I'm working on.

I'll color original and existing characters, and am certainly willing to take color direction if you have some reference for what you're getting. We will discuss what you're looking and finalize details BEFORE I begin coloring, so I know what I need to do and what you want. I will not be doing anything involving sexual acts or explicit nudity, so don't even ask.

I am also offering Copic Marker colors on anything you might have, but I determine pricing for that on a case by case basis, so please inquire.

Upcoming Con, Print, and a big ol art dump.

Journal Entry: Sun Mar 13, 2011, 9:13 PM
I've been pretty busy lately, tackling a bunch of commissions and other work.  Most of what I've been working on was posted today, so check it out!

I'll be attending MegaCon in Orlando in a little less than two weeks.  I don't have a table or anything, but I'll be floating around for a bit.  I don't think I'll be at the whole con though because the trip is wrapped in with a vacation, so this is more super happy fun time than anything else.  If you see me though, feel free to stop and chat me up.

I recently completed a piece that I collaborated with artist :icongigatoast: on.  We are selling a limited run of prints, which will be signed (by us both) and numbered.  You will only be able to get these at C2E2, so act quick!  They will be $20/print and are 12x18 inches.  Adam will be located in Artist's Alley at table K10.  Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend, as I can only afford 1 trip this year. :'(

The Print:

Lastly, commissions are still open and going strong.  The price point was pretty popular, so I decided not to change it back.  Details can be found in this journal post: [link]
Please contact my good friend Lan Pitts at oryonstar@gmail.com to arrange one.

Be well everyone!

Post NYCC and Upcoming Commission Specials

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 11, 2010, 7:25 PM
Hey everyone,

POST NYCC:

NYCC was a blast, I had a ton of fun.  I got a bunch of sweet art from some artists I've been dying to meet, such as :iconalientechnology2mars:, Joelle Jones ([link]), :iconink4884:, :iconmahmudasrar:, :iconkah-reload: (who didn't show, but his awesome rep Jason was there), Ted Naifeh ([link]), and a few others who I'm forgetting at the moment.

I also got to see and catch up with :iconceeceeluvins: who was awesome as ever.  She finally finished coloring my Molly Hayes sketch, which she was holding hostage because it was so awesome and she didn't want to ever let it go.  :p  She also was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to sit with me and go over my portfolio for a few minutes and gave me some super helpful tips.  I didn't feel like a total failure afterwards and she assured me it was because I was doing something right, so YAY!  XD

I dropped off my portfolio with a few publishers, the big two didn't call me back to review it, but there was a lot of competition naturally and there's less room for colorists than pencillers, so I wasn't too surprised there.  I got some good feedback from a few of the mid-tier companies, and to mix things up one was actually kind of brutal (he did have valid critiques though, so I need to work on some of that stuff.  We'll see if anything comes of it and if not, I'll be refining and practicing until the next convention.

UPCOMING COMMISSION SPECIALS (PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING IF INTERESTED):

I am taking about a week or two off and then I'll be coloring a bunch of pieces I wanted to work on for myself.  Starting Monday, November 1st, I will be doing coloring commissions for the following pricing (YOU provide the lineart):

Single Character: $20
Additional Characters: $5 extra each character
Background: $10 extra
11x17 or 13x19 Print: $20 extra, shipping included (USA only)

Example: If you have one character and a background, it will cost $30.  If you have 7 characters, a background, AND want a print, it will be $70.

I will be offering these prices for the whole month of November, so there's plenty of time to save up and plenty of time to get in.  I will not be responding to or accepting any requests before November 1st, so please save all your requests until then.  I will be completing them as fast as possible, so if you're looking for a nice gift for a friend or family member (or even yourself :p), it is very likely you'll have it before the holidays.

I'll color original and existing characters, and am certainly willing to take color direction if you have some reference for what you're getting.  We will discuss what you're looking and finalize details BEFORE I begin coloring, so I know what I need to do and what you want.  Nudity is OK if it's soft-core like something in playboy, but I will not be doing anything involving sexual acts or explicit nudity, so don't even ask.

I really truly want to thank each and every one of you who has visited my page, faved my art and left me comments.  It really means a lot to me that you all take time to come visit my little corner of the internet.  I've been a bit busier lately, so I'd had to stop individually thanking everyone for the faves because it really is so time consuming, but I really do appreciate it, and so I say thank you to all of you who do.  I've been trying to increase my speed, and it's working, but not as fast as I'd like.  Rest assured though, I'll have new stuff soon!

Since when is inking NOT a legitimate art?!?!

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 25, 2010, 7:15 PM
Found this on :iconthejeremydale:'s blog.

[link]

So if the plan is to go after inkers (and eventually colorists for the EXACT same reasons) where the hell are we supposed to go?  DA is a great community until people start getting busted for stuff that they're NOT doing wrong, by people who don't understand the rules they're reading.

Back to the Future coming back to theatres!

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 11, 2010, 9:17 PM
Not in the USA, but in the UK?!?!?!!?  WTF?!?!

This fills me with so much RAGE it's not even funny.  BTTF is my favorite movie, like EVER.  Unfortunately I was THREE when it came out, so I never got to experience it on the big screen.  I never got to experience the ride at Universal Orlando either, because it was replaced by that damn Simpsons :( ride by the time I was able to afford my first trip there.  Now the original movie is getting a re-release in theatres for it's 25th Anniversary and it's not coming out here?  Not even in limited release?!  FUCKING DAMMIT.

You people in the UK are lucky.

Unanswered Questions

Journal Entry: Wed May 26, 2010, 4:07 PM
This is the last bit I'm posting on Lost, I'm just tired of people giving the show a pass because the ending was emotionally satisfying.  This guy compiled a metric shit ton of unanswered questions into a (approx) 4 minute video, and while not everyone of them matters, there's enough significant ones to prove that the writers had no idea no plan at all, and just decided to pretty much disregard the entire previous 5 seasons when it came time to wrap things up.

Lost Finale (Spoiler Free)

Journal Entry: Sun May 23, 2010, 10:17 PM
Seriously?  Ok, so I let it sink in for a bit.  And I understand it now.  And it's a total fucking cop out.  Sure, it's a character driven show, and on that note they deliver and wrap it up, very well.  But the show was also a mystery.  And they just left about 90% of the important shit, regarding the plot and the mystery hanging.  Way to fail jackholes.

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 27, 2010, 6:03 AM
I've been entirely too absent from DA.  I just uploaded a bunch of stuff I've been doing recently, and hopefully more will come soon (though not that soon  :()  I am open for coloring commissions still if anyone's interested.  Hit me up with a note or email if you'd like a quote on something.  I've kind of taken a break from doing anything the last two weeks, because between my full-time job and cramming EVERY day to get stuff done for my portfolio, so I could show it around at MegaCon, I was burnt.  I've been itching to get back to coloring though, so I'll be starting on some stuff again on Monday, and probably be grinding full time again until Heroes-Con.
