New York, New York.

So I just got back from the last day of my first NYCC. Oh man was it a blast. Absolutely a blast. I got to meet so many artists I admire and see so much cool stuff. I brought some of my work and got some really outstanding advice and encouragement from :iconceeceeluvins:, :iconebas: and a few other artists not on here. The only person I missed that I wanted to see was :iconbakanekonei:. Maybe next year if she comes! There were a lot of really cool ass panels and behind the scenes stuff. Saw a bunch on X-Files 2, Wanted, Hellboy 2 and The Incredible Hulk. Let me tell you HULK is going to be so kick ass your eyes might have an orgasm. Everything I saw was really amazing and it looks like it's going to surprise a lot of people and be a lot different than Ang Lee's Hulk. They also confirmed (with footage) one of those pesky rumors about the crossovers to setup for an eventual Avengers movie.

I got A LOT of stuff too. A good bit of original artwork from :iconebas:, :icondavid-nakayama:, :iconceeceeluvins:, :iconfrozenlilacs:, :iconnebezial:, :iconkerong:, and a few not on DA (that I know of): Oliver Nome, Paolo Rivera, Stephane Roux, David Quiles, Billy Tan, Lucio Parrillo, Mike Choi, Tyler Kirkham, and Mark Sparacio. I'll be scanning all of it at work tomorrow and posting at my Comic Art Fans Gallery [link] for those interested in seeing how lucky a fanboy I was this year.

I also picked up a bunch of issues of comics I was looking for and got some good deals too. Also completed my missing Astonishing X-Men collection.

The con did take its toll on me though. I was up at like 5 AM on Friday and Saturday and at 3AM this morning. I took the train and a cab to the con in the morning and then walked all day (in some worn out shoes no less) and then walked back to the train station. My feet feel like they're going to fall off. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining because I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but I need a break. I'm exhausted. I'm probably going to take the week off of coloring and relax, then sort some shit out and get re-focused. I've got a good bit of work ahead of me and really want to get to it, but want to get it right. Peace out peeps, I'm off to bed now.

...is an awesome thing. I'm speeding up and I got quite a bit done over the last couple days. I sat down to start a new piece yesterday and just wasn't feeling it, so I stepped back and made some changes to the Lois and Clark piece I just did (I've got one more change I want to make) and then wound up watching a few episodes of The Office, then going to bed early because I was just so tired. I should be getting the cover for the next Fenix Gear issue in the next couple of days, and until then I'm just working on more art I can find. I've been flatting pages at work just because it's so damn slow and I don't want to do anything when I go there. I've got a few pieces flatted that I plan on doing this week, like a Wolverine, and an Emma Frost piece. I'm trying to vary my pieces now, because I've noticed a lot of my palettes are very sunset heavy, so I'll be doing a bunch of daytime pieces and a couple nighttime ones to mix it up.

I want to practice doing some sequential pages also, does anyone know where I can get some decent quality ones?

I also got my business cards! They look AWESOME. The plastic was a good choice, they're all waterproof and fancy...limited edition kinda stuff. My friend suggested that I do a different image for each batch that I print up (which I was planning to do already), because they look like smaller versions of old school trading cards. Who knows, maybe if I actually make it somewhere in the comic business, they'll be like a collector's item in like 15-20 years.... :p yeah right.

Anyway back to work so I can get out of here later.

So I'm showing a friend some inking stuff in Painter today and (insert whatever sound effect you use for something comically dying), my pen decides that it doesn't want to recognize various pressures anymore. OK, I try photoshop. Nothing. Meh, not good. Reboot. Same thing. Pen still functions, but no pressure. I look at the tip, worn down. Shit, ok, time for a replacement pen. Oh, the graphire4 is discontinued. And the pen is on "backorder". Check ebay. $60 w/ $15 shipping. Yeah, no thanks. Check amazon, same bullshit. Ok, well I planned on upgrading the tablet after NYCC anyway, so how much is the Intuos3? $290 on amazon for the 6x8. That the size I have for the graphire. I always hit the edges of it since I have a widescreen monitor. How much for the 6x11? $335. Ok, why not get the grip accessory kit while I'm at it so I have some extra nibs and shit. Ok, check out.......Why the fuck is shipping $20??? Oh, because they're shipping from seperate places. of course they are. $370. Done. Ow my pockets hurt. Just once it'd be nice if life waited for me instead of making me change my schedule. Another month and a half and I'd have done this comfortably.

Also found out today that the commission I had ordered back in October was finished and sent. Then lost in the mail on the way to the dealer. The artist lives in brazil, so it took some time to find this out, and he's redoing it, but dammit!!! I wanted it already. I hope it's as awesome as the first one was. At least as I think it was. The prelim was sweet, that much I did see.

I finished my business card. You can check it out in the gallery. I'll be giving these out at NY Comic-Con where I'll be collecting sketches from awesome artists and shooting the shit with peoples. This is my first NYCC so I don't know anyone yet and will be mostly doing introductions. I finished a page on Fenix Gear and flatted a couple. Flatting is the most boring thing anyone can do involving comics. Easter weekend was pretty relaxing, had some family visit and ate good foods. I watched the first two Back to the Future movies again. I love those movies. Classic.
